How to Optimize Your Profile for ChatGPT and AI Search

Updated 13 September 2026

To be described accurately by ChatGPT and similar assistants, make the same facts about you available, consistently, on several public sources they read, with your own website as the anchor. Name, role, specialism and location should match everywhere, word for word where possible.

This is entity work. You are not gaming a ranking, you are removing ambiguity about who you are.

The checklist

  1. 01One name form. Pick it and use it on every profile, byline and bio.
  2. 02One specialism sentence. Same phrasing on LinkedIn, your site and third-party bios.
  3. 03An about page on your own domain, with Person schema, linking out to your LinkedIn and any publications.
  4. 04LinkedIn profile complete, with a custom URL and a featured link back to your site.
  5. 05Three or more independent mentions: a podcast, a guest article, a conference listing, a directory.
  6. 06A consistent photo, which helps humans and search surfaces match you across sources.

Why consistency beats volume

Entity resolution is the process of deciding that the Faizan Shaikh on a podcast page, the one on LinkedIn and the one on a company site are the same person. Conflicting titles, different name spellings and missing links make that resolution fail, and an assistant that cannot resolve you will either hedge or omit you.

Own the definitive page

Create one page on your own domain that states plainly who you are, what you do, who you do it for and what you have done. That page, marked up with Person schema and linked from your other profiles, is the source assistants can most easily trust, because you control it and it does not change shape underneath them.

Frequently asked questions

How does ChatGPT know who I am?
From public sources: your website, LinkedIn, articles, directories and anything else in its training data or retrieved at query time. It has no private access to you.
What if ChatGPT says something wrong about me?
Correct the underlying sources. Fix the outdated bio, publish an accurate about page and get it linked. Models update as the web does, slowly.
Do I need a Wikipedia page?
No. Consistent, corroborated coverage across independent sources does the same work, and is achievable without meeting notability criteria.
