Entity SEO for Personal Branding: Becoming a Recognised Person Entity

Updated 13 September 2026

Entity SEO is the practice of getting search and AI systems to recognise you as a distinct person entity, and to associate that entity with a topic entity. Once that association exists, you surface for questions about the topic even when your name is not in the query.

For a personal brand, that association is the actual asset. Rankings on individual pages are just evidence of it.

Person entity and topic entity

A person entity is you, resolved as a single identity across sources. A topic entity is a subject, such as LinkedIn personal branding. Entity SEO builds the edge between them, so systems treat you as an authority on the subject.

  • Person entity signals: consistent name, role, photo, cross-linked profiles, Person schema.
  • Association signals: repeated publishing on the topic, third-party coverage tying you to it, anchor text using the topic when people link to you.

Content clusters build topical authority

A single page about a subject is a claim. Fifteen interlinked pages covering every sub-question of that subject is evidence. Content clusters, a hub page plus deep pages beneath it, are how you present that evidence in a shape machines can follow.

  1. 01Pick the topic you want to own, narrow enough to actually cover.
  2. 02List every real question inside it, from search data and from client calls.
  3. 03Write a hub page that frames the topic and links to every sub-page.
  4. 04Write each sub-page to answer one question completely.
  5. 05Link sub-pages to each other where a reader would genuinely want the other page.

The schema layer

sameAs links are the important detail. They tell a machine that this Person and that LinkedIn profile are one and the same.

Off-site is half the work

Nothing you publish on your own domain can, by itself, make you an entity. Independent corroboration does that: guest articles, podcasts, quotes in industry pieces, speaking listings. Three or four of those a year, all describing you the same way, will do more for entity strength than a dozen extra blog posts.

Frequently asked questions

What is a person entity in SEO?
A distinct individual that search and AI systems recognise across sources, rather than a string of text. Consistent naming, cross-linked profiles and Person schema are what create one.
How do I build topical authority for my name?
Publish a content cluster that covers a topic exhaustively on your own domain, keep it maintained, and earn independent mentions that tie your name to the same topic.
Does entity SEO matter for a small business?
More than for a large one. A small brand rarely outranks incumbents on volume, but it can become the clearly recognised authority on a narrow topic.
