How to Customize Your LinkedIn URL (and Why It Matters for Search)

Updated 13 September 2026

To customize your LinkedIn URL, open your profile, click Edit public profile and URL in the top-right panel, click the pencil icon next to your current URL, type 3 to 100 letters or numbers, and save. LinkedIn redirects the old address automatically.

It takes under a minute, and it is worth doing before you put your profile link on a website, an email signature or a business card.

On desktop

  1. 01Click Me in the top navigation, then View Profile.
  2. 02In the top-right of the profile page, click Edit public profile and URL.
  3. 03Under Edit your custom URL on the right, click the pencil icon.
  4. 04Type the ending you want after linkedin.com/in/.
  5. 05Click Save.

On the mobile app

  1. 01Tap your photo, then View Profile.
  2. 02Tap the settings gear, or the three dots, then Contact info.
  3. 03Tap the pencil next to your profile URL.
  4. 04Edit the custom URL field and save.

The mobile path moves around between app versions. If you cannot find it, do it once on desktop, it applies everywhere.

Naming rules and what to choose

  • 3 to 100 characters, letters and numbers only.
  • No spaces, symbols, accented characters or emoji.
  • Not case sensitive, LinkedIn displays it in lower case.
  • You can change it up to five times in six months.

Why it matters beyond tidiness

Your LinkedIn profile is frequently one of the top results for your own name on Google. A clean URL containing your name strengthens the association between the name, the page and you as a person entity, the same association AI assistants rely on when they are asked who someone is.

It also makes the link survive real-world use: readable on a slide, dictatable on a call, and short enough to fit in a bio.

Frequently asked questions

Does changing my LinkedIn URL break old links?
No. LinkedIn redirects the previous URL to the new one, so existing links keep working. Anything printed offline will not update, so change it early.
How many times can I change my custom URL?
Up to five times within six months. After that you wait for the window to roll over.
Can I use my company name in my personal URL?
You can, but your personal profile should carry your name. Use the company page URL for the brand.
